News Letter

April 5. 2021

Dear Wah Wah Taysee Scouters and Friends:

Wah Wah Taysee was an active camp this past winter 2020-2021. While camper numbers may look low, they were good factoring in COVID-19 restrictions and both the remaining 2018 and more recent storm damage. We have served 11 units and 82 campers.

A forest management plan is underway. The initial phase to make the forest safer for campers hiking the trails and camping at our campsites. That phase is nearly completed. See the photo of the cleared opening of the Giants chin at Giantview shelter. On the trail from Giantview shelter to the water pump, widow makers have been removed, and the dead ash trees towards the Turtle camp latrine have been felled to the ground as seen in the next photo.

Many logs on the ground are waiting for BSA certified, chainsaw happy scouters to buck into 12′ lengths for Scouts to split.

The camp remains open. Weekends are available. There are a multitude of advancement activities your scouts can do in camp, on the adjacent Sleeping Giant (state park) , or on the nearby Farmington Canal Green-way.  Call to make a reservation for your unit now!

Wah Wah Taysee can still use your help!

Between the May 2018 storm which severely damaged many trees in camp, damage from subsequent storms, and the devastating effect of the Emerald Ash Borer infestation there is still much clean-up work to be done.

Maintenance Activities

All maintenance activities are coordinated by Ranger Ross who would like to hear form you.

Campmasters

Camp Masters are registered volunteer Scouters who act as representatives of the camp, the ranger, and the Council. Their main purpose is in serving the campers, our customers. Making sure facilities are open and ready, facilitating activities when asked, at the same time helping to ensure safety and the protection of our property.

While at Wah Wah Taysee Ranger Ross is the Camp Master, on occasion he needs others to fill in.
