Safar-O-Ree

Join a Safari and discover the fun and adventure in the wilds of Scouting at Hoyt. A day event with optional overnight camping for packs. Each Scout will receive a safari hat and will earn a patch.
$20 Youth/Adult (includes lunch, patch, program fees, and safari hat).
Packs can make their own arrangements to camp overnight. This will require camping reservations through Council at https://www.staging.ctyankee.org/camping/reserve-a-campsite-or-facility/. Additional fees will be required and packs are responsible for the supervision of their Scouts and all meals for the overnight.

Cub Scouts will be divided into 6 teams rotating to 6 stations in 30 minutes intervals. A separate schedule will be set up for the Pinewood Derby. Scouts would leave the Safar-O-Ree rotation to race their car.
Action Safari Stations
- Station 1: BB Gun Safety
- Station 2: BB Shoot
- Station 3: Knots of Fun (Scout skills)
- Station 4: The Jungle — Nature Study
- Station 5: Safari Craft
- Station 6: Safari Games
Scouts will receive a Safari hat collecting stickers to decorate it with.
BB Derby Notes:
- Tigers (with a parent), Wolves, Bears and Webelos permitted to shoot. We will provide an alternate activity for Lions.
- We have included safety goggles for each scout. This will avoid the need to sanitize goggles in between shoots.
Pinewood Derby Championship:
- Each pack will be allowed the top 3 winners from each rank — Lions, Tigers, Wolves, Bears and Webelos.
- We will maintain separate race scores for Powahay and Scatacook to designate top winners from each race by districts and end with a Scatacook vs Powahay top overall winner race.
- Location Jackson Pavilion
- Separate Pinewood Derby schedule — Scouts would leave the Safar-O-Ree rotation to race their car.
- Scouts must be paid and registered in the Safar-O-Ree to race.
- Pack Leaders will provide us a list of their eligible racer by May
- Cars will be checked in starting at 9 AM.
